A nice copy of this second, amended edition of Ludwig's work on the vegetable kingdom. Jourdan claimed that this was one of the best works to follow Linnaeus. Contemporary half leather binding, with gilt decoration to the spine. title label. A little rubbing to the edges, but substantially sound. Inside the front end paper has had a corner (presumably with a name) cut out. The rest of the book is in very good condition, with just a touch of darkening / foxing. [xiv], 264, [x]. pages. Complete. 19cm x 12cm. Text is in Latin. .

Der dritte Band beschäftigt sich auch mit Geographie und Astronomie, die Tafeln zeigen u. a. auch eine Weltkarte mit 2 Hemisphären 0 Gewicht in Gramm: 2000.

Sprache: Latein, (stärker beschabt und bestoßen, Rückengelenke brüchig, Kapitale mit kleinen Fehlstellen, innen nur wenig gebräunt und braunfleckig, die Tafeln teils knitterig und mit Einrissen, im Ganzen aber ordentlich erhalten). Erste Ausgabe. Der dritte Band erschien bei Bernard Guillemette, ebenfalls in Toulouse. 26 Blatt, 559 Seiten, 4 Blatt, 3 Tafeln; 26 Blatt, 722 Seiten (recte: 718), 7 Tafeln, 26 Blatt, 746 Seiten, 2 Blatt Index, 6 (von 7) Tafeln. Mit Überklebungen mit alten Vignetten auf den Titelblättern und in den Büchern, wohl um Stempel zu kaschieren. Der Titel steht aber nicht im "Missing Book Register" der ILAB. Nicht eingehend kollationiert, aber augenscheinlich vollständig, es fehlt lediglich die letzte Tafel im 3. Band, so dass nur 16 von 17 Tafeln vorhanden sind. Die Kupfer zeigen physikalische und medizinische Instrumente, astronomische Darstellungen und Geräte sowie anatomische Abbildungen. Francois Bayle (1622 - 1709) wurde in Boulogne (St. Bertrand) geboren und war in England, Frankreich und Deutschland als angesehener Arzt, Erfinder und Gelehrter bekannt. Er war Autor von zahlreichen Werken, die Themen aus Medizin, Philosophie, Physik, Anatomie und Biologie umfassen. Er war ein Vertreter des Experimentierens und des Cartesianismus und Mitglied der "Société des Lanternistes". Bayles verfasste die erste umfassende Darstellung des Systems von Descartes. Er behandelt Themen, die von Metaphysik und Logik bis hin zu Pflanzen und Tieren reichen. Bis 1670 eröffnete Bayle gewöhnlich die Cartesianischen Konferenzen und hielt Vorträge über merkwürdige medizinische Fälle, wie seine Studie über eine 25-jährige Schwangerschaft. Er glaubte, dass solche Absonderlichkeiten der Natur eine wichtige Rolle für den Fortschritt der Wissenschaft spielen. Bayle war Professor der Medizin an der Universität Toulouse. Zusätzlich zu seinen Aktivitäten als Reformer, Lehrer, Wissenschaftler und Arzt diente Bayle 1681 als Berater des Parlaments von Toulouse, als er vorgeladen wurde, um mehrere Fälle angeblicher dämonischer Besessenheit zu untersuchen.
