From the Preface, "One purpose of this history of Franklin and Simpson County is to help senior citizens recall the 'good ole days' of their youth and to show the present day generation that through hard work and the will power to overcome hardships these senior citizens as well as the citizens of yesterday have built a community of which we can all be proud. Darkness shrouds all phases of the early days of the county and city -- a darkness due to a fire which destroyed the Simpson County courthouse in 1882. City as well as county records were lost int his fire. The growth and progress of both the city and the county since 1882, as recorded in this history can be verified from available sources." Most of the nine full-page illustrations from photographs are credited to J. A. Meiser or A. W. Ericson. Affixed to the final page of text, is a yellow slip titled "Advance the Interests of California" prepared by The California Promotion Committee as well as their rubber stamp on the rear wrapper. Outer leaf just a bit dusty, 30 mm split along bottom spine fold of outer leaf, a very good copy.
