Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke made an official state visit to Ireland in 1987 bringing with him gifts from the Irish diaspora including this book containing the following dedication: "To the Irish Prime Minister. Best wishes and looking forward to seeing you next year, Thomas Keneally 1987". Indeed the Irish Prime Minister Charles J Haughey did make the very first official visit to Australia by a serving Irish Prime Minister in 1988. A copy of the Australian Prime Minister's speech delivered at the parliamentary dinner in Canberra on 12th July 1988 in honour of the Irish Prime Minister is included with this book. The speech makes reference to Thomas Keneally and others of Irish descent. Unclipped Dust Jacket has some signs of shelf wear and rubbing but no tears. Pages have yellowed from age with some foxing present and some bumping to navy boards.
