Contains the famous Elegy written in a Country Church-yard as well as the disturbing Ode on the Death of a Favourite Cat. Riviere was a London bookbinder of Huguenot descent who headed the leading bookbinding firm of his day, commissioned by Queen Victoria as well as leading bibliophiles.

He is widely known for his Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard, published in 1751.

Includes works such as "Ode on the Spring", "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard", a fragment from "Agrippina" and four translations into English verse.Although only publishing 13 poems in his lifetime, Gray was a critical figure in eighteenth century literature, paving the way for the second generation of Romantic poets. Wordsworth famously critiqued Gray's "Sonnet on the Death of Richard West" in the preface to the 1798 Lyrical Ballads. Bound in full vellum. Externally, very smart with moderate marking to front and back boards. Closed tear to front free endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound.
