Front and rear boards show only minor wear, and some mild rubbing of leather, tight spine hinges, books complete and compact. The books may have been re-backed in the past by J S Gowing. Previous owner's name embossed inside each front cover - G Montagu, and volume 2 has separate hand written 1959 inscription. Each volume has a frontispieces including Dr Johnson, A Pope, Addison and Young, the frontispiece in volume IV is loose. Relatively clean interiors with 428, 372, 363 and 546 pages showing some browning of the early title pages. A scarce complete set of 4 volumes published in 1827 and in very good condition.
