Rudolf Freund (illustrator). Very good condition overall, this mid-century copy of Danny and Prue by Edith Ballantyne is bound in its original blue cloth with a mounted illustration of a sailing vessel to the front board and a matching paper spine label. The binding remains sound and attractive, with light edge wear, minor rubbing, and gentle corner bumping consistent with age. The cloth retains a pleasing, even tone, and the interior is clean, with bright paper and no significant foxing observed. A well-preserved and visually appealing example. Of particular interest is the contemporary presentation inscription on the front free endpaper, reading: "To Carolyn Easley, with the hope that she gets as much pleasure from this story as the author did from writing it. Edith Ballantyne. A good friend of Elsie's." The inscription provides engaging personal context and suggests a close social connection to the author. A charming and distinctive copy, combining solid condition with meaningful inscriptional provenance.

Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. Clean, tight, unmarked; absolute minimal wear; appears unread; Maddie Prue is eternal, a Druid sorceress in one era, a raunchy Celtic songstress in another. Her spirit haunts one man, Henry Ryon, who appears to live cursed lives over and over until he discovers the secret of Maddie Prue's terrible death. This haunting, lyrical mystery of loevers trapped in time is filled with fascinating historical detail. It takes us to 19th century England and a group of the idle rich who use the mad songstress as part of their armchair pursuit of the occult, then catapults the reader into 20th century America and a record industry devoted to plundering talent. This novel beautifully and richly describes the eternal sorrow of lost love. Signed by Author(s).

First edition, first state, with tipped in three page AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED by the author to an unknown recipient dated April 3, 1879. 8vo, publisher's original brown textured cloth lettered in gilt on the spine. ix, 214 pp. A very nice copy internally, with the paper fresh and clean, the cloth bright, some very light cracking at the hinges and with evidence of earlier expert, unobtrusive restoration to a joint. The autograph letter on one sheet of printed vellum letterhead folded into fours is in an excellent state of preservation. FIRST EDITION. A very nice copy of this popular work by George William Curtis, WITH AN AUTOGRAPH letter by him included. Curtis was a major contributor to Harper's Magazine though is perhaps now best remembered for his fiery orations in support of Lincoln and Sumner in the years leading up to the Civil War. PRUE AND I is a pleasantly sentimental, fancifully tender and humorous study of life, especially coming from one best known for his intense political essays.
