Documents officiels échangés entre la légation de la République du Paraguay et le gouvernement de sa Majesté britannique, sur ladite question, encore pendante.  First edition. 8vo. Half blue morocco with speckled paper boards, extremities and outer spine worn and rubbed. [ii], xii, 5-199pp. Besançon, J. Jacquin, In the Canstatt affair, Santiago Canstatt, a registered British citizen, was arrested by Paraguayan authorities, who accused him of being involved with a plot to assassinate the president, Carlos Antonio López. In retaliation, British warships attacked the Paraguayan warship Tacuarí in the port of Buenos Aires.    This work comprises a series of diplomatic correspondence of, among others, Carlos Calvo and Lord John Russell, on the topic with the goal being to resolve the issue and re-establish normal relations.    Scarce: OCLC locates copies at Boston Athenaeum, KCL, Oxford, the Institute of Historical Research, BnF, Bern, and another in Germany.
