Minor cracking to gutters and hinges, with exposed netting. Binding is slightly loose. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces and bumping to corners. Gilt lettering is darkened. Includes 10 adorable b/w full page plates. Price-clipped original dj shows some short closed tears and bits of loss at tips but still displays well in new mylar. Red Ruff the fox, trickster of the furry folk, has no peer in animal literature. The sheer diplomacy and cheek of his sallies on hen-roost and hatchery, his crafty outwitting of the foes of the chase, his captures and escapes, his loves and hates - the stuff of real adventure, all viewed with the eye of the keen observer. Most certainly a story for all who love the timeless creatures of the Wild. The career of this dog fox, from his birth on the cliffs of the Scottish coast, down to our final glimpse of him seeking a high and safe cairn with his mate, is continuously interesting.

A good only copy of this fairly rare first edition. 10 plates including a frontispiece all as called for. Some scattered spotting and some scattered finger soiling. A chip to the margin of one leaf - no loss of text. A short tear to the tail of one leaf. A little loss to the extreme head of the advertisement leaf at the rear of the book. Some age toning to the spine - the titles in blue remain very readable. A neat ink gift inscription to the front endpaper. A good only copy.

In very good condition, with minor wear and slight creasing to spines, edges and corners. Both have very slight staining to edges and Starlight has minor staining on a few pages, but otherwise both are bright, tight and clean.
