Wrappers toned sunned, with minor losses to all edges and sunned spine. Internally bright with contemporary advertising to both front and rear. The Cosmopolitan Illustrated Monthly Magazine was first published in 1886 as a family magazine, and has since gone through various iterations (known today colloquially as women's lifestyle magazine Cosmo). in 1894 John Brisben Walker & Arthur Sherburne Hardy were editing as a leading literary magazine, publishing articles, serials, and satire, including H. G. Wells 'The War of the Worlds' in 1897, and, in this instance, the first appearance of short story 'The Red Stockade' by Dracula author Bram Stoker, illustrated by F. Lix. Abraham 'Bram' Stoker (1847-1912), Irish author, theatre manager, and personal assistant to Sir Henry Irving. He is now remembered synonymously with his 1897 Gothic horror novel Dracula.
