First edition. [8] 518-640, [9-64]pp. Original publisher's printed paper wraps in red, blue and black, over black and blue printed leaves. All edges untrimmed, top edges unopened. Wrappers toned sunned, with minor losses to all edges and sunned spine. Internally bright with contemporary advertising to both front and rear. The Cosmopolitan Illustrated Monthly Magazine was first published in 1886 as a family magazine, and has since gone through various iterations (known today colloquially as women's lifestyle magazine Cosmo). in 1894 John Brisben Walker & Arthur Sherburne Hardy were editing as a leading literary magazine, publishing articles, serials, and satire, including H. G. Wells 'The War of the Worlds' in 1897, and, in this instance, the first appearance of short story 'The Red Stockade' by Dracula author Bram Stoker, illustrated by F. Lix.
