Paperback. Condition: Good. No Jacket. A horizontal crease to the middle of the book, and a lesser vertical one about 2.5 inches fron the spine. Some rusting to the staples, but otherwise a not too bad copy of this slim soft-cover book. Slightly misleading title, the life story is just a short piece on first page. The songs, given in staff and sol-fa notation, are: "Lovely Polly Stewart", "When you're far away from Bonnie Scotland", "Lady with the Silver Hair", "Green Grow the Rashes", "Bonnie Scotch Lassie", and "Annie Laurie". Wilson was a popular singer of Scottish songs back in the 1940s and 50s, and presented the TV show "The White Heather Club" in 1957-58. Signed by the author on front cover "Best Wishes, Robert Wilson". No publication date shown, but two of the songs are copyright 1951. 16pp. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Signed by Author.

Soft cover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. No Trail of Bitterness: A Biography of Charles Robert Wilson OBE DCM by Walter Gibbons. SIGNED BY AUTHOR. Softback in excellent condition, no inscriptions. 114 pages with photos. Charles Wilson was 17 years old when he volunteered for service in WWI, although he claimed a birth date that made him appear 20. After training at Trentham, he was directed to D Company 1st Battalion NZ Expeditionary Force and embarked on the Maunganui in October 1915, bound for Egypt. When he was discharged in July 1919, he was 21 years old and had served four years and 63 days, during which he lost most of his close friends and his brother William to the conflict. He had risen from Rifleman to sniper and Scout Sergeant, then become a commissioned army officer and received a Distinguished Conduct Medal for consistent gallantry and devotion to duty. Wilson began farming in Te Teko in July 1921, beginning a lifelong career with the sector. He played a fundamental role in the Rehabilitation Board, helping to settle over 16,000 servicemen on farms post WWII through to the early 1970s. Signed by Author(s).

Index. Minor cover soiling and wear. Some front board weakness noted. Inscribed by the author on the fep. Inscription reads: For Paul my student of old and Betty his bride May the wind be often behind your backs. Gabor November 3, 2001. P.S. Please excuse the excessive pr of the jacket. This is one of The Gettysburg Civil War Institute series of books. Gabor S. Boritt (born 1940 in Budapest, Hungary) is an American historian. He was the Robert Fluhrer Professor of Civil War Studies and Director of the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College. Born and raised in Hungary, he participated as a teenager in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 against the Soviet Union before escaping to America, where he received his higher education and became a scholar of Abraham Lincoln and the American Civil War. He is the author, co-author, or editor of 16 books about Lincoln or the War. Boritt received the National Humanities Medal in 2008 from President George W. Bush. Nearly a century and a half after his death, Abraham Lincoln remains an intrinsic part of the American consciousness, yet his intentions as president and his personal character continue to stir debate. Now, in The Lincoln Enigma, Gabor Boritt invites renowned Lincoln scholars, and rising new voices, to take a look at much-debated aspects of Lincoln's life, including his relationships, his plan to send blacks back to Africa, and his high-handed treatment of the Constitution. Boritt explores Lincoln's proposals that looked to a lily-white America. Jean Baker marvels at Lincoln's loves and marriage. David Herbert Donald highlights the similarities and differences of the Union and Confederate presidents' roles as commanders-in-chief. Douglas Wilson shows us the young Lincoln--not the strong leader of popular history, but a young man who questions his own identity and struggles to find his purpose. Gerald Prokopowicz searches for the military leader, William C. Harris for the peacemaker, and Robert Bruce meditates on Lincoln and death. In a final chapter Boritt and Harold Holzer offer a fascinating portfolio of Lincoln images in modern art. Acute and thought-provoking in their observations, this all-star cast of historians--including two Pulitzer and three Lincoln Prize winners--questions our assumptions of Lincoln, and provides a new vitality to our ongoing reflections on his life and legacy.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Major Bob The Life and Times of Robert Adams Wilson of Rangitikei By Carol Dawber & Hilary Haylock. Publisher: River Press, 2010. First edition. SIGNED BY AUTHOR (Hilary Haylock). Hardback, binding firm, some bumping to spine ends and corners, small dent to edge of spine. Pages excellent with no owner inscriptions. Major Robert Adams Wilson DSO, the second son of a Rangitikei sheep farmer, was brought up in a privileged and cultured household. Inspired by his Scottish father, a Member of Parliament, and his Australian mother who was a noted writer, Bob had an enquiring and innovative mind, a firm belief in science and a love for literature and the arts. He was a keen polo player and a forward-thinking businessman whose interests in sawmilling culminated in the chairmanship of two of the North Island's most important timber companies. He successfully planted and farmed a large area of Himitangi coastal sand country, and he established the highly successful Mahoe Friesian Stud, but his greatest love was for the rugged and isolated places of New Zealand. For nearly four decades he went deerstalking in South Westland and Otago, and after serving in the British Army in World War One he encouraged English sportsmen to do the same. He was an authority on native birds, joining ornithologists Edgar Stead and Geoffrey Buddle on numerous research expeditions to New Zealand's most inhospitable offshore islands. He wrote for a variety of newspapers and journals, and he bred lilies and rhododendrons. A high mountain pass, an island bay, several native plants and a rare southern fernbird were named after him, yet he had no public profile and was little known outside his own circles. This book tells the story of a twentieth-century gentleman who lived on his own terms in the Rangitikei. 268 pages with photos. ALL PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK. All books are sent with free courier postage within New Zealand. Signed by Author(s).
