Original publisher's binding in grey with black lettering. / Luisa Felicita Vertova (b.1921) studied art history and archaeology at Florence university in the early 1940s. After graduation, she worked as translator, contributor and editor. At the end of the war, through mutual friends, Vertova met Bernard Berenson who invited her to work with him as photographic assistant at Settignano, Villa I Tatti. She worked alongside Berenson until his death in 1959. 1960s she became Old Master Paintings and Drawings Specialist at ChristieÕs International auction house. She was editor of several editions of BerensonÕs writings and Caravaggism in Europe by Nicolson. Vertova is the daughter of Professor Giacomo Vertova. She married Lionel Benedict Nicolson, son of Hon. Sir Harold George Nicolson and Hon. Victoria Mary Sackville-West, on 8 August 1955, and divorced in 1962. / Bernard Berenson (1865Ğ1959) was an American art historian specialising in the Renaissance.
