In full: 'Dear Sir, Here you are - Bertr…am Mackennal.' Bertram Mackennal (18631931) was an Australian-born sculptor who achieved major success in Britain. He became the first Australian artist knighted and was widely respected for public monuments, portrait busts and coin designs. Mackennal created sculptures of British royalty, including Edward VII, and designed coinage for the British Empire. Working mainly in London, he combined classical technique with strong realism, becoming one of the most prominent sculptors of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.
