FIRST EDITION, some light spotting at either end of text, pp. 286, 24 [Publisher's list], crown 8vo, original red cloth, lettered in black to upper board and backstrip, the latter a shade faded, slight lean to spine, a couple of specks of wear to upper joint, two corners gently knocked, edges lightly spotted, endpapers more faintly so, dustjacket in nice shape, just slightly nicked and chipped at extremities, very good. A Colwin Grey mystery novel, written - the author professes in his dedication - 'to picture a part of our beautiful English countryside now threatened with despoilment', namely the Sussex Downs, where the eponymous recluse has been found dead on his farm. The author had been born in Melbourne in 1872, but moved to England as a young man. A scarce first edition.
