The boards and spine have soiling/spotting wear along with edges with pristine legible lettering. The pages and endpages are clean, with no markings or folds. There is moderate toning in place (primarily end pages and next to photos) but all text is bright and absolutely legible. No dustjacket. This is an ex-lib copy with a number on the spine, stamps present, and card holder removed from rear board. No remainder mark. This is still a strong copy from General "Bill" Mitchell, considered by many to be one of the key personnel of the early US Army Air Force.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. First printing. Moderate edge and corner wear, sides of cover hinges have worn through to fabric layer, but no fraying. Moderate discoloration to sides of textblock. Torn corner on p.65, text is fully intact. Book is otherwise in decent shape, solid reading copy- covers are clean and corners are square. Dust jacket has borne the brunt of the damage, and carries several jagged tears throughout, though the largest is only a missing chip appx. 8cm sq. across base of spine. Heavy fading to spine, discoloration of cover surfaces. Has been given protective mylar jacketing.

Covers are toned and worn with spotting and minor bumping along edges. Binding is tight and secure. Corners are bumped. Previous owner book plate on FFEP reads "Ex-Libris Len Schneider". Stamping to both the front and rear endpapers. Pages are toned throughout, but otherwise remain crisp and clean. Images are printed in B&W. J. B. Lippincott Company. Title page is dated 1930. Copyright page is dated 1930. 314 pages. A good copy. This volume comes from the Aviation collection of Prof. Chris Sterling. Sterling spent his lifetime teaching, writing, and collecting books on civil and military aviation. We are proud to house his Aviation collection, part of the extensive library which is his legacy. A cornerstone work on early 20th century aviation by Gen. "Billy" Mitchell, a key (and controversial) figure in the establishment of the U.S. Army Air Force. Mitchell does not confine himself to only to military matters but also examines the making of pilots, commercial and sporting aviation, airships and airplane manuvers, etc. A tight copy, spine a bit sunned but gilt lettering bright. No jacket. The U.K. edition is considerably harder to find.

Published in the US slightly earlier in the year, by Lippincott, and showing evidence of being American sheets with a Benn title page.
