The Great Patriotic War is a term used in Russia and other former republics of the Soviet Union to describe the conflict fought during the period from 22 June 1941 to 9 May 1945 along the Eastern Front of World War II between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany and its allies. For some legal purposes its period might be extended to 11 May 1945 to also include the end of the Prague Offensive. This collection includes the complete official Soviet history of World War II written by some 200 historians and army officers, and provides information on Soviet involvement in the war. It focuses primarily on the struggle with Germany but also covers other theaters. It provides details of all military operations and descriptions of the wartime economy, politics, diplomatic relations, and society. It is considered one of the most significant historical documents produced in the Soviet Union. In addition to its importance in the war's historiography, this work is a valuable exposition of the development of an influential military doctrine. Presumed First Edition, First printing thus (only 38,000 printed).
