Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Jacket (as issued). First Edition. 1st Printing. 1941. Moderate general wear. Front board detached. 34 pages. Photostatic copies of his original orders, and his obituary in 1883. Mr. Mack was connected with the Navy of the United States, holding the position of gunner, and had been in active service forty years, visiting, in that time, nearly every portion of the globe, besides serving his country most faithfully in the Mexican war and in that of the Rebellion. He was at Vicksburg, under Admiral Porter, doing gallant service during that memorable seige, and was there breveted captain. and placed in command of the gunboats, which formed no small part of the flotilla engaged at that time. He was also gunner on board of the Cumberland, in her engagement with the Rebel ram, Merrimack, and went down with the Cumberland, when she sank. Being taken to the shore, he was resusitated and returned to duty. 6193L.
