Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Condition: About fine. 1st thus, #687 of a limited 1500. 4to. size, 121 pp. Mustard yellow cloth elaborately stamped in blind, with black calf spine label stamped in gilt. Printed by Clarke & Way in New York, and with full spread frontispiece and in-text and color illustrations throughout by the designer and illustrator, T.M. Cleland, who has also signed on the limitation page. Goldsmith's great comic play, reissued in the typical beautiful and meticulous LEC format. The spine head shows the slightest hint of wear, there is a very faint smudge on the top edge, a small stain on the foreedge, faint erasures of a previous collector's notations on the front flyleaf and title pg, as well as one very small extraneous mark on the title page also, but otherwise the book is essentially as-new, and appears unread. In a VG+-NF slipcase that is lightly rubbed and scuffed and has had a previous collector's label removed. Even the original glassine is in excellent shape, with only a couple small tears and light spine browning. A terrific copy of Goldsmith's comic classic. Signed by Illustrator(s).

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Hugh Thomson (illustrator). Limited Edition. A very good copy of the limited illustrated edition of 'She Stoops to Conquer' in full vellum and signed by the artist, Hugh Thomson. Copy number 237/350, undated but published in 1912. With 25 tipped in colour plates, black and white illustrations and designs. This was one of a series of Christmas gift books illustrated by Thomson, an Irish artist, who was particularly popular at the time. Probably best known now for his illustrations to the famous Peacock edition of Pride and Prejudice. The binding is very clean with intricate decoration to the front board in gilt with a green lined border, and gilt titles and designs to the spine. The front board edges have some light spotting and the ties are missing (although the bow has been kept). The spine has some pale spotting. The back board is very bright. Both boards have a warp at the side edge. Top page edges are gilted; remainder untrimmed. The contents are complete and in near fine clean condition. The free endpapers are lightly browned and there are corner tip creases to the bottom corners of pp 163 and 167. There is the occasional spot to page side edge. The book is housed in an old slipcase. The slipcase is very battered and there is no indication as to whether it was issued with the book or was matched up with it later. Please enquire if you would like to see additional images.
