The author explores timeless themes of love, motherhood, identity, and loss. The poems question the nature of human existence, how we find meaning in the face of impermanence, and the search for connection amidst isolation. Drawing inspiration from the literary landscape, the author's voice resonates with raw emotion, vulnerability, and a poignant reflection on the human condition. This book offers a profound and deeply moving exploration of the complexities and beauty of life. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. First Edition. (lacking the original dust jacket, but encased in a professionally-made facsimile reproduction of same; see 2nd image posted with this listing) [light shelfwear, some fading to spine cloth with gilt lettering partially rubbed away, one-time owner's name and date in ink on front endpaper, discoloration in gutters]. (B&W prints) A wide-ranging anthology of material produced by several dozen artists and writers working under the auspices of various divisions of the Federal Writers' Project. There are fiction and non-fiction prose works, poems, songs, "Americana" offerings (which range from "phrases of the people" to "Negro market songs of Harlem" to "square dance calls"), etc., plus sixteen black-and-white prints by as many artists (each on a single plate). From a collectable standpoint, probably the most notable piece is Jim Thompson's "The End of the Book," his first published story, but there are contributions from quite a few other interesting writers, some already well-known but others still in the early stages of their careers. A sampling: "The Ethics of Living Jim Crow: An Autobiographical Sketch," by Richard Wright; "Lexington Express," a story by novelist Fred Rothermell; an essay on Gertrude Stein's work, by Dorothy Van Ghent; and "A Song of the Moon," a short poem by Claude McKay. The sixteen artists whose works are reproduced herein are: Harold Lehman, I.J. Sanger, Raymond Skolfield, Effim H. Sherman, Hubert Davis, Moses Oley, Jack Markow, Moses Soyer, Esteban Soriano, Mabel Dwight, Eugene Morley, Elizabeth Olds, Ida Abelman, Kyra Markham, Leonard Pytlak, and Fritz Eichenberg. NOTE again that this book bears a FACSIMILE dust jacket, to serve the dual purpose of protecting the book from further wear and enhancing its appearance on the shelf; its presence has not been factored in to our pricing.
