Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: None Issued. 2nd Edition. First published in 1825, this is considered one of the most interesting accounts of the Peninsular War. Gleig was seventeen when he arrived in Spain with the 85th Regiment of Foot and the Peninsular War was about to become the invasion of France. Gleig fought in Spain and the 1814 'American War' before become a chaplain and eventually becoming the Chaplain-General of the British Army. 374pp. Contemporary brown calf boards with five raised bands to the spine which has a red morocco title plate with gilt lettering. Newer green tooled leather boards have been laid over the original boards, these have a gilt band around them, Rubbing to extremities. Marbled page edges and endpapers. Contemporary name to title page. Spotting to inner endpapers.…

Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. First edition 1828. Two Volume Set. Ex Bath Public Reference library with their bookplate inside the front covers. One small blind stamp on the title page and last page of each volume. A few page edges in volume one have been poorly opened, small chips and tears. Not affecting the text and only small. Some light marking throughout. Contemporary half leather and marbled paper covered boards with raised bands and red titling labels. Leather and boards heavily rubbed and the top of the spine of volume two very slightly split. Corners rubbed and frayed. Volume one has 304 pages and volume two has 311 pages. Still a very good solid set in a contemporary binding. Scarce first edition.…
