Octavo, pp., 156. Publisher's blue and red half-tone cloth with titles in silver to black label on spine. Pink endpapers. In the publisher's unclipped graphic dust-jacket. A bright, near fine copy inscribed "For dear Barbara, from Rosamond. With love. October, 1967." A touch of foxing to text block edges, boards a little rubbed…and faded to edges. The so-called spiritual autobiography of Rosamond Lehmann, who rose to prominence in the literary world after the scandal of her first novel Dusty Answer with it's open portrayal of queer characters in the 1920s. The Swan in the Evening recounts her life, with particular focus on the spiritual experiences Lehmann had after the death of her daughter Sarah, from polio in 1958.
