Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Second edition. 12mo. [3], iv-viii, [1], 2-256 pp. Nineteenth-century half sheep dyed green over marbled boards (binding ca. 1835). DeMorgan 90 (DeMorgan's speculation that 1816 is the first edition is incorrect). Contemporary owner has tipped in leaves with their hand-written calculations and notes, one of which folds out. Joyce's volume covers stocks and the stock market, long division, logarithms, "vulgar" fractions, decimals, subtraction, compound interest and annuities, permutations and combinations, and exchanges. Illustrated with charts relevant to the different mathematical lessons. The volume is concerned with arithmetic relevant to economics and business practices, a pragmatic text with historical interest. A Very Good book with contemporary owner's gift inscription and ink annotations, light spotting to leaves.
