Dans la seconde édition, cette erreur est rectifiée.Dans le cadre de son procès avec son épouse, qui demandait et obtint la séparation de corps, Mirabeau qualifie de "suppression arbitraire" la décision du chancelier Maupeou de faire suspendre la publication de son Mémoire, imprimé pour sa "légitime défense" contre des "libelles horribles", par l'entremise de M. de Laurens de Villedeuil, directeur général de la Librairie et son propre rapporteur.Contrairement à la comtesse, Mirabeau plaida lui-même sa cause et accumula de nombreux Mémoires.
