The book features a frontispiece (with tissue guard), two pages of illustrations, and a facsimile of Thackeray's handwriting. The book is an early biographical account of the life, literary career, and personality of British author William Makepeace Thackeray. It covers his childhood, and professional work, including a selection of his speeches and reflections on his humor and contributions to literature. Found within the pages is a poem by Thackeray clipped from an antique newspaper, and a clipping showing Thackeray's home from an old magazine. Condition: Clean covers and spine. The gilt lettering on the spine has mostly faded. Small cloth tears at the top and bottom edges of the spine. Sharp cover corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Nice interior - the pages are clean with the exception of foxing on the frontispiece, title page, and the tissue guard in between. The front end paper has a 1" tear at the outer edge, and a name/date (1864) written in ink. Overall the book is in Very Good- condition.
