Condition: Fair. 1948. First Edition. 220 pages. Red and blue jacket over red cloth. Includes photographic plates. Pages have slight foxing, moderate tanning and minor thumbing. Endpapers have strips of tanning caused by jacket. Notable foxing and staining to plates. Pencil inscriptions to front endpaper. Boards have some moderate edge wear, with slight bumping to corners and minor bumping to spine ends. Notable water staining to front and rear with heavy dust marking and tanning also. Unclipped jacket has some edgewear with chips, tears and creasing. Jacket rather rubbed and marked overall. Heavy tanning to rear panel. Some water staining, red stains and pencil marks to underside.

More prominent to text block edges, lither to pastedowns and free endpapers. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Mild creasing and staining to hinges. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning. Clipped jacket has light edge-wear with minor tears and chipping. Mild rubbing and marking.

Written by the leader of Vichy France as an explanation of his actions during the Second World War; he was later executed for his collaboration with the Nazis.
