Original Wraps - Single Claspe. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. A paperback original in French wraps, issued by Greene's Swedish publisher Norstedts in 1962 as a Christmas Gift, with a foreword by Ragnar Svanstrom. The three novels referred to are The Power and the Glory, The Heart of the Matter, and The End of the Affair, that the publisher was about to issue in an omnibus edition. Near fine in wraps with light sunning to the front panel, some more moderate sunning to the top of the rear wrap, and a sun darkened spine. The booklet has been warmly inscribed "for Michael (Korda) with love and best wishes/for Christmas/from Graham." Some of the pages are unopend at the top, but it appears that Greene opened page 26/27 in order to make a hand-written correction, changing the first word in line 4 from Seen to Seeing. Korda, the editor-in-chief of Simon and Schuster, and Graham Greene were lifelong friends. A unique association copy. Signed by Author(s). …

First Edition. [Modern Literature ] FIRST BODLEY HEAD EDITION. A gift from GRAHAM GREENE to Gillian Sutro. Octavo (19 x 12cm), pp.441; [7], blank. Publisher's red cloth in cream dust-jackets printed in black and red. With SIGNED presentation note to free endpaper; For Gillian / With Love / from / Graham (underlined). Some light damp-soiling, jacket tanned to spine, price clipped. Given by Graham Greene to one of his closest friends. Greene maintained a deep, multi-layered friendship with John and Gillian Sutro that spanned more than forty years, blending playful social lives, cinematic collaborations, and profound personal confidences. Greene's relationship with Gillian was uniquely affectionate and highly personal, though strictly platonic. Greene once famously admitted to John, "The only thing I envy John is Gillian". In their later years, the Sutros lived near Greene on the Côte d'Azur in France, cementing their daily presence in his life. The Bodleian Library in Oxford houses a massive, dedicated archive of personal correspondence between Greene and the Sutros dating from 1953 to 1989. An eminently suitable gift, Greene himself had edited works for The Bodley Head series, such as the multi-volume collection of Ford Madox Ford. Greene's nephew Graham C. Greene later became co-chairman of Bodley Head. Signed. …

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. First Omnibus Edition, 8vo. Large format paperback. New preface. (18 x 12cm), pp.237; [2], blank. Publisher's illus softcovers. Signed by the author on the title page. Light handling, one corner slightly creased spine slightly toned; VG. Loosely inserted is a signed certificate created by bookseller R A Gekoski, whom Greene used to sell many of is books 'This is to certify that this copy of 'Three Plays' is my own personal file copy and bears my ownership signature Graham Greene (ink signature) Antibes.' It is dated March 10 1990.This volume is also the first uncensored edition; Greene's postscript at end, in light of a more relaxed view on homosexuality, notes that "readers of this play may have a little fun determining which solitary adjective and which passage of three lines Lord Chamberlain and his officers have found too indecent for the theatre". Original Wraps. Condition: Nearly Fine. 1st Edition. First Omnibus edition of The Living Room, originally published in 1953; The Potting Shed, original date 1958; and The Complaisant Lover, 1959. This is also apparently the first uncensored edition, taking into account the relaxed view of homosexuality by the government in the UK. This is a paperback original, nearly fine in pictorial wraps with the spine evidencing a bit of light handling. The book is warmly INSCRIBED on the half-title page " for Binkie - with love - from Graham". Binkie is Hugh Beaumont, co-founder of H.M. Tennent Co., a famously successful theatrical management company in London's West End, and close friend of Greene, Noel Coward, and Sir John Gielgud. An outstanding association copy. First U.S. edition. With a presentation inscription from the author to Anthony Hobson. A fine copy in d/w, which has a little rubbing to the top edge but is in fact, about fine. Anthony Hobson was Graham Green's contact at Sotheby's and they corresponded over the years beginning in 1962 and in 1964 Hobson organized the sale of Green's manuscripts. Their correspondence is now at Emory University Library.…
