Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. The First UK printing published by Jonathan Cape, London in 1988. The correct with the incorrect ISBN number on the reverse of the title page (with no correction sticker) which differs from the ISBN details on the wrapper. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a hint of pushing at the spine ends and some light toning. Some light spotting to the upper text-block. Black boards / gilt. 172 pp. Illustrated end-papers. Twenty-one plates (colour and B/W), two maps. The foreword by Chris Bonnington. A very slight crease which affects a 5cm in length section of the extreme lower edge of pages 10-40 which appears to have been a production issue in the way the page has been cut. This is only mentioned for completeness. The WRAPPER is neatly price-clipped (as usually encountered) and is in near Fine condition with just a hint of fading of colouring to the orange lettering on the spine and some very light spotting to the rear flap edges. The wrapper is protected in a Brodart archival cover. The book has been signed (without dedication) by the author to the title page. He has also lined out his printed name. A copy of the ticket for the signing event is loosely inserted as provenance. The book was successfully adapted into a survival documentary film directed by Kevin Macdonald and starring Brendan Mackey, Nicholas Aaron, and Ollie Ryall. 'The plot concerns Joe Simpson and Simon Yates' near-fatal descent after making the first successful ascent of the West Face of Siula Grande in the Cordillera Huayhuash in the Peruvian Andes, in 1985. Critically acclaimed, 'Touching the Void' was listed in PBS's '100 Greatest Documentaries of All Time'. The Guardian described it as 'the most successful documentary in British cinema history'. ' (Wiki). A mountaineering classic and increasingly scarce with such attributes. More images available on request. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact. Signed by Author(s).
