Publsihed by Heinemann and Morrow in 1960. 391 pp. typed on rectos only. 1 vols. 4to. Inscribed from "To Val with love from Heather Norway" Shute typescript material is exceedingly scare in the market as his papers went to the National Library of Australia. This typescript of the last novel he completed bears a presentation from his daughter Heather Norway. "Keith Stewart's vicissitudes point to the common link between all of Shute's other 'little men' Mr. Honey, Tom Cutter, Jack Turner, the Pied Piper, the Scot pilot and slaves in An Old Captivity for all of these characters undertake successful journeys that are made near epic chiefly by the limitations of time or character" (Smith).
