An illustrated history of Rochester along with convention proceedings, delegates, illustrated advertisements (one embossed and in color). Blue cloth with darker blue spine, gilt lettering and decoration, oblong format, 10.25" x 7", 173 pages. Light rubbing to the extremities, minor scattering of foxing to the endpapers and outer edges of the text block, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages with no names or other markings. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. Oblong 8vo.

Moser (illustrator). One of 1500 copies. 8vo, two double leaves, paper wraps. Print by Barry Moser laid in, signed by Moser. A nice copy. The announcement for the opening of the Typothetae for fine printing. The Typothetae printed the books for Leonard Baskin and Barry Moser.

Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Original flexible boards.

NA. Condition: Used. Thirty-seven misspellings of the Hampshire Typothetæ's name, along with definitions of "typothetae"-the first "signifying type placers." Designed by Barry Moser in Centaur and Arrighi types. Printed by Harold McGrath in black, red, blue and about twelve other colors for the bullets-each requiring a separate press run. A nice thing. Oh. Wait. You don't know what the Hampshire Typothetæ was. In 1978, Moser, McGrath, Jeffrey P. Dwyer (bookseller), John Lancaster & Ruth Mortimer (curator-librarians), and John Locke (dunno) established the Hampshire Typothetae in Northampton, Massachusetts, later in West Hatfield, Massachusetts, as a commercial letterpress shop. The business was established using printing equipment that Leonard Baskin had used at his Gehenna Press. The Typothetae operated until 1986. Excellent 454.

Condition: General wear. A tongue-in-cheek guest log for a 'Typothetae Dinner' at the Chatham Tavern in Pittsburgh, PA. The dinner was a "Ye Gathering of ye Kindred Spirits to pay homage to a fellow craftsman, Frederick [sic] W. Goudy, at ye Typothetae Dinner". Goudy (1865-1947) was an American printer, artist and type designer. Some of his more well known font creations are Copperplate Gothic, Goudy Old Style, and Kennerley. Along with the "shade of Harry Lawrence Gage", there were were thirteen others who signed their name on the card, and as the word 'Typothetae' infers, the dinner was attended by a variety of men in the printing business. At the end of this description there is a list of the men that were able to be identified, along with their place of work. At the end of the list, there is a bit a humor, as it states "and others too respectable to mention". Under this is information on the printer, who was also one of the attendees, Edward H. Stuart. It states that it was printed "with loving care and thoughtful kindness. set in Kennerly [sic] [a Goudy Creation] of course." There are oddly two spelling mistakes on this item. The first of which is Goudy's name, as it spelled Frederic not Frederick, and the second is the name of the font used by Stuart, it is Kennerley not Kennerly. Lastly, of possible note, this dinner took place at a Tavern almost a year after prohibition started, and this might be the reason no record of the tavern itself existing was found.
