Solid and VG in its dark-red pictorial cloth. Light abrading at the front free endpaper and very mild bowing to the front panel, otherwise very sharp. Lacking the glassine dustjacket but, happily, the printed paper flaps (the front and rear flaps of the dustjacket) have been neatly laid-in. Oblong quarto, masterful pencil sketches and text throughout, making this one of Paul Brown's great studies of "races, the hunting field and horsemanship both here and abroad". Paul Brown was an American illustrator of equestrian subjects although he was never formally trained as an artist. He is primarily known for his paintings, drawings and sketches of horses and equestrian sports. During the heyday of polo in the 1930's, Paul Brown immortalized the sport for many in his illustrations for Peter Vischer's 'Polo' magazine, of which Brown was a member of the editorial board.
