The pamphlet has a vertical crease down the middle, giving the appearance that it was folded at some point, though it lays flat now. This copy is housed in a special red cloth folder with a small bookplate from the library of Jerome Kern, and matching half-morocco slipcase with minimal edgewear. A prior owner has laid in two newspaper columns and a note card with publication details. This critical study of the distinguishd French journalist, poet, and dramatist appeared originally in English in the columns of the Exmainer. Vacquerie was the lifelong friend and literary executor of Victor Hugo.…
