Add to basketThis lovely small etching is a signed Artist proof of the Dutch town of Veere, by the prolific and highly regarded English artist W.L.Wyllie (1851-1931). As a very young man Wyllie studied at the Royal Academy, where, among others he studied under Edwin Landseer and Frederic Leighton. In 1869 Wyllie was awarded the prestigious "Turner Gold Medal"; aged only 19. Wyllie began his artistic career in the 1870's as an illustrator for the Victorian weekly journal "The Graphic Magazine". Over the course of his long career, Wyllie specialized in maritime genres, mostly in oils and watercolours. Many of his works were exhibited at The Royal Academy - he himself was elected a member in 1907. Paper size: 360 x 495 mm. Original uncoloured etching Good condition.
