Writer, translator and historian Thomas Kabdebo introduces Summa Summarum, his volume of collected Hungarian and English poems, and his new novel Róma szolgáló leánya. The Anglophone reader will find his or her text in the second part of this book. Summa contains the Hungarian poems, in part one, which Summarum contains one hundred English poems, Thomas Kabdebo's total output in this language. One of the poems won an international poetry competition. Thomas Kabdebo (Budapest, 1934). attended university in Budapest, studying Hungarian language and literature. He took part in the1956 revolution and had to escape. He settled in Britain where he earned a Ph.D. in history. He taught military history in Manchester, and then directed the university libraries of Guyana, the University of Westminster and finally the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. He published forty books in English and in Hungarian as well as forty translations. His awards include: the Middle Cross of Hungary, the József Attila Prize, the Arany János Prize, and the Füst Milán Prize. He is the author of Danubius Danubia and Dictionary of Dictionaries. Tamás (1892-1955) was a poet, journalist, and publicist. At the head of the poem Merengés ( Meditation ) on p. 43 is a lithographed hand-drawn staff with the first two measures of the tune for the poem. József Hanák (1903-1945) was a noted Hungarian modernist who worked initially in Nagybánya and and relocated to Paris in 1925, working as a graphic artist for the Pesti Hirlap. As a painter he is chiefly known for his figurative work. OCLC locates 1 copy in North America (NYPL). Inscribed by Tamás with a warm dedication to novelist and editor Adorján Bónyi (1892-1967).
