Henry van Dyke, Jr. (1852-1933) was an American author and educator. He was appointed Minister to the Netherlands and Luxembourg in 1913 by President Woodrow Wilson. In addition to advertising the title of the lecture by Van Dyke and the times and locations of the lecture, the broadside lists the ticket prices (25c, 50c, 75c, $1.00, and $1.50) and where tickets are sold (tickets for San Francisco lecture sold at Paul Elder's; tickets for Oakland lecture sold at Sherman & Clay's, Oakland, and Tupper & Reed and Sather Gate Book Store, Berkeley).

Founded by Paul Sawyer, Paul Dorpat and Lorenzo Milam, it sprang from their intellectual fervor at the Free University, an alternative thinktank they also founded. Eventually star-illustrator Walt Crowley assumed editorship. Print will be carefully shipped rolled in a mailing tube. .
