Arthur Murphy (1727-1805), was also known by the pseudonym Charles Ranger. It was he who introduced Samuel Johnson to the Thrales. He is best known for three biographies: his 1792 An Essay on the Life and Genius of Samuel Johnson, his 1762 Fielding's Works and his 1801 Life of David Garrick. He aslo wrote about twenty works for the Theater and still found time for a successful law practice. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Tall.
