Add to basketHardback. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Mabel Emily Step (illustrator). Reprints. 1933 (first and third series) and 1935 (second series) - reprints. Three volumes. xxxii, 176pp, 127 colour plates and 150 text illustrations; xxxvi, 171pp., 127 colour plates showing 130 species and 140 text illustrations; xxxii, 176pp., coloured figures of 64 species, 87 black and white photographic reproductions, and 119 text illustrations. These three volumes form part of the publisher's "Wayside and Woodland" series. The books have been written by Edward Step (1855-1931), the author of many popular and specialist books on various aspects of nature. Intended as a pocket guide for the nature lover and rambler, they describe Britain's wayside and woodland blossoms. We believe that the colour plates are by the author's daughter, Mabel Emily Step. The books are uniformly bound in the original maroon cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spines and gold and black titling with a small gold illustration on the front boards. The cases of the books are in very good condition with some faint spots of patchy damp fading on the boards. The contents are tight and clean with a little foxing on the free endpapers, half-title and last pages. A name and date (1937) has been written on the front free endpaper of each volume. The unclipped dustwrappers have light shelf wear and the spines are faded. There is light bumping to the top of the spine of volume 1 and the bottom of the spine on volume 3 is lightly bumped with a small nick. The front of the wrapper to volume 1 has a scrape that has caused a small hole that has been repaired on the reverse with tape. The original paper-covered slipcase for the three volumes is present and has shelf wear with some soiling on the sides and wear to the corners. There is a 1/4" split on one of the shorter open edges and damage across the joint near the top of one of the closed edges.PLEASE NOTE: This is a fairly heavy set and extra postage may apply for delivery outside the UK.
