Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - A Brief Journey through 'Wireless Mesh Networks: Architectures and Protocols' Ekram Hossain, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada Kin Leung, Imperial College, London, United Kingdom Introduction Wireless mesh networking has emerged as a promising design paradigm for next gen eration wireless networks. Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) consist of mesh clients and mesh routers, where the mesh routers form a wireless infrastructure/backbone and interwork with the wired networks to provide multihop wireless Internet con nectivity to the mesh clients. Wireless mesh networking has emerged as one of the most promising concept for self organizing and auto con gurable wireless network ing to provide adaptive and exible wireless Internet connectivity to mobile users. This concept can be used for different wireless access technologies such as IEEE 802. 11, 802. 15, 802. 16 based wireless local area network (WLAN), wireless per sonal area network (WPAN), and wireless metropolitan area network (WMAN) tech nologies, respectively. Potential application scenarios for wireless mesh networks in clude backhaul support for cellular networks, home networks, enterprise networks, community networks, and intelligent transport system networks. Development of wireless mesh networking technology has to deal with challenging architecture and protocol design issues, and there is an increasing interest on this technology among the researchers in both academia and industry. There are many on going research projects in different universities and industrial research labs. Also, many startup com panies are building mesh networking platforms based on off the shelf wireless access technologies and developing demanding applications and services.

Add to basketTaschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The unique characteristics of multi-radio wireless mesh networks, such as shared nature of wireless channels, use of multiple radio interfaces, stationary mesh routers, and user-to-gateway traffic pattern, make them different from wired-networks and other wireless networks. In particular, the effects of an unbalanced load can cause rapid gateway overloading, center overloading, or channel overloading. Since most traffic in a WMN is destined towards gateways, traffic concentration at gateway nodes creates a load imbalance at certain gateways, which in turn results in gateway overloading. The issue of center overloading refers to the nodes located near the geographical center of the network becoming overloaded in comparison to other nodes in the network. Finally, channel overloading in a multi-radio wireless mesh network refers to certain channels becoming overloaded compared to other channels. Thus, load balancing is necessary to avoid hot spots and to increase network utilization, as bad routes can exist for a long time in a static network and result in congestion and inefficient use of network resources.

Add to basketBuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The book discusses a very promising and effective approach in wireless communications called Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN) and its related issues. Meshes with external access capability, i.e. connected to the Internet, will be discussed. A full overview of WMNs with a technical assessment of mesh and multi-hop networking will be highlighted. Chapters in this book will provide a clear overview and summary and will evaluate some practical examples of upright mesh applications.
