Inscribed by the author on the flyleaf: 'For Elinore & Fred Stettenheim, with thanks & admiration, Jimmy Stern, 25.6.39'. The recipients were part of the same New York Jewish family as Walter Lippmann. An uncommon book, the more so inscribed the stories all have childhood as their theme, in different settings. The book's printed dedication is to Brian Howard.
