The author was a Dutch patriot, one of its leaders in the province of Gelderland, and a cousin of the famous patriot leader Joan Derk van der Capellen tot den Pol. After the restoration of 1787 he fled to France and in 1788 was sentenced to death for high treason by the Court of Gelderland. As from page 177 a great number of documents. A Dutch edition appeared the same year in Dunkirk and a second French edition in 1793.

Brief des aus dem galizischen Nagybocskó (Groß-Botschko, heute Bocicoiu Mare, Rumänien bzw. Velykyj Byckiv, Ukraine) stammenden Autors, Publizisten (ğNeue Freie PresseĞ, ğFrankfurter ZeitungĞ und ğBerliner TagblattĞ) sowie bedeutenden chassidischen und kabbalistischen Gelehrten und Rabbiners Chajim Bloch (1881-1973) an Gretha Prins-Elias (1888-1981), einer Tochter des niederländischen Genremalers jüdischen Ursprungs Benjamin Prins. Bloch macht in diesem aus Wien wo er seit 1914 lebte versandten und mit schwarzer Tinte verfassten Brief der "hochgeehrten gnädigen Frau Elias" ein Exemplar der niederländischen Übersetzung seines zuerst 1919 auf dt. erschienenen "Prager Golem" zum Geschenk. Als zusätzliche Merkmale der Personalisierung trägt die Titelseite des Ex. sowohl den hs., dat. Besitzervermerk von Elias ("Gretha Elias Nov. '30"), als auch den Besitzerstempel von Bloch ("Schriftsteller Ch. Bloch / Wien, XX., Rafaelgasse 1"). 1939 flüchtete Bloch, der seit 1935 zunehmend gegen antisemitische Verleumdungen seitens der Nazis (v.a. des "Stürmers") aufgetreten war, u.a. über die Niederlande in die USA. Es ist anzunehmen, dass ihm die Bekanntschaft mit Gretha Elias-Prins die Ausreise erleichterte.
