Eriks Kalis (1904-1939) was a Latvian graphic designer and scenographer, member of the avant-garde Riga Artist Group. "[.] Kalis's design for [.] Vilips's poems, 21 dzeja [21 poems], draws on the Constructivist geometry and typography favored by Lissitzky in his Berlin books and by Kassák's own graphic programs from the early 1920s." (Davis, 2007) Pavils Vilips (1901-1979) was a Latvian poet, essayist, and translator. In the 1920s VÄ«lips was a member of the Latvian Expressionist group of writers who focused on the aspects of contemporary urban life.
