AN ACT FOR THE ABOLITION OF THE SLAVE TRADE. (25th March 1807).

With An Act for transferring to is Majesty, certain Possessions and Rights vested in the Sierra Leone Company, and for shortening the Duration of the said Company, and for preventing any dealing or trafficking in the buying or selling of Slaves within the Colony of Sierra Leone (8th August 1807). Both bound with A Collection of the Public General Statutes, Passed in the Forty-seventh Year of the Reign of His Majesty King George the Third. 2 vols containing 134 Acts being the First Session of the 3rd Parliament and the First Session of the 4th Parliament with title pages, Tables and Indexes. Modern half calf, marbled boards. The pagination for An Act for the Abolition of the Slave Trade is pp 317 - 326; and for the Act relating to Sierra Leone pp. 285 - 287. The Act states ' That from and after the First Day of May One Thousand eight hundred and seven, The African Slave Trade, and all and all manner of dealing and trading in the Purchase, Sale, Barter, or Transfer of Slaves, or of Persons intended to be sold, transferred, used or dealt with as Slaves, practised or carried on, in, at, to or from any Part of the Coast or Countries of Africa, shall be, and the same is hereby utterly abolished, prohibited, and declared to be unlawful'. This, of course , was not the end of slavery. It was not until the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 that slavery was abolished within Britain and its colonies. Hogg 3170; Ragatz p.94.
