First UK edition, first impression, of the second of Blossfeldt's seminal trilogy. It was originally published earlier the same year in Berlin under the title Wundergarten der Natur; neue Bilddokumente schöner Pflanzenformen. The artist was by training a botanist; his use of extreme close-up technique began as part of his study. However he swiftly developed a fully fledged abstracted aesthetic which found a ready audience around the world. Many subsequent photographers cite his books as a key influence on their work. Folio. 120 photogravures. Original blue-green cloth, device and titles to front board gilt, titles to spine gilt. With the photographic dust jacket.
