First printing. Quarto, 48 pages with 23 drawings of scenes typical to the East Indies printed recto only and with a short descriptive caption facing. String bound, card wraps with a colour printed image by Adolfs to the front cover. The drawings were produced in pen and ink and many are of Bali, its culture and temples. A book produced by the Java-China-Japan Line ("JCJL") for promotional and advertising purposes. The JCJL, was a Dutch owned shipping line operating in South East Asia, and was the fore-runner of Interocean Lines. The artist, Gerard Adolfs (1897-1968) was a Dutch East-Indies painter and architect, raised in Java, trained as an architect, and then became a painter and advertising illustrator. In the 1930's, the press called him "The Wizard of Light". Internally in Very Good condition, the covers however are heavily chipped and much of the spine is missing so overall grades only Good Minus.
