Undated but 1930 (a publisher's catalogue at the end of the book is for Autumn 1930). Second impression. 285pp. plus a 32 page catalogue. Belshazzar is a historical novel by H Rider Haggard set in Ancient Babylon, and tells of the Egyptian prince Ramose seeking to rescue his wife Myra from the King of Babylon. It was written in 1924, and was just finished at the time of his death. The book is bound in the original grey cloth covered boards with black titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and light soiling on the boards. The spine is faded and there is also fading along the top 1" of both boards. There is very light bumping to the corners and spine ends and a thin split in the cloth on the top 3/4" of the rear spine edge and wear to the cloth on the bottom rear spine corner. The contents are tight and clean with some very light foxing on the endpapers and slightly heavier foxing on the last few pages of the catalogue at the end of the book. The fore edge of the text block also shows some foxing and on a few pages this has seeped a little way into the fore margin. Two names have been written on the front free endpaper which also has a small red stamp illustrating a dog.
