Item description from seller

Half calf and marbled boards, gilt spine-title, all edges gilt, 4to, Typescript in red and black, 110 numbered leaves with typescript on rectos only, interleaved with blanks for notes. An unpublished typescript bibliography. (Copac records a copy in the National Maritime Museum Library dated 1930 and a photocopy dated 1947 - no other references, and not in Rasor. ). In our copy many of the typescript leaves and a few of the interleaves have corrections or additions, sometimes extensive, to the typescript entries. Most of the additions do not offer any clue as to dating of the volume, but one references an auction of March 1951 and another a Francis Edwards catalogue of 1950. The author, Roger Charles Anderson 1883 - 1976) was a distinguished maritime historian and collector who was a leading figure in the early years of the Society for Nautical Research and of the Navy Records Society. The Swedish naval historian Jan Glete has described Anderson as "one of the most important naval historians of the twentieth century. He mainly wrote about early modern warship technology and used his linguistic skills to write books and essays based on the literature from several countries." An obituary by George Naish observed " "His writings were often wantonly dull but always thoroughly trustworthy. He thrived on facts and figures." Very Good.
