Clarence King was an American geologist and mining engineer who organized and directed the U.S. Geological Survey of the 40th parallel, an intensive study of the mineral resources along the site of the proposed Union Pacific Railroad. Shortly after the death of Clarence King (1842-1901) the Board of Management of the Century Association considered in what manner the Club could take note of their distinguished fellow member. Eventually it was determined to recommend the publication of a King Memorial Book, which would contain a number of personal memoirs, contributed by some of his more intimate friends and associates, together with a reprint of King's short story entitled "The Helmet of Mambrino," which was first published in the Century Magazine, in May, 1886. Light wear to the spine ends and corners with interior clean and tight. A solid very good copy. Seller Inventory # 49957
