From the introduction: "In the three years since the 60th Anniversary Exhibition ‘The Art of the Scribe’, the Society of Scribes and Illuminators has continued to grow in membership and this exhibition ‘Calligraphy '84' represents recent work by a wide cross section of practising members. The exhibits show work by amateurs and professionals and elected Craft Members and Lay Members from a number of countries. The British tradition of controlled craftsmanship with its sound letter forms is well in evidence, but there is much to delight both the eye and the imagination in the more recent trend towards expressive and interpretative calligraphy.
