Item description from seller

An example of a charming pamphlet advertising the Grand Hotel Du Cap Martin on the French Riviera. The brochure contains aerial views of the hotel and surrounding area and lists the amenities patrons would enjoy, such as tennis courts, swimming pools, and a private beach. The Grand Hotel Du Cap Martin was designed in the late-19th century by the architect Hans-Georg Tersling (1857-1920) after being commissioned by the Black & White Whiskey Company. The hotel became a tourist destination for royals and the upper echelon of society, with Franz Joseph I of Austria staying at the hotel four times. His wife, Empress Elisabeth of Austria, lived in the hotel during the last few years of her life. The hotel served as a hospital during the First World War and reopened as a hotel in 1919, but a series of fires, water damage, and bombings in the Second World War led to the building being converted into flats in 1959. Quarto pamphlet, concertina-style. With blue-tinted heliogravure photographs on recto, half-tone photos on verso, panelled in gilt. Damp staining along top edge, a little rubbing. A very good copy.…
