Item description from seller

[Literature] LEATHER-BOUND FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, first impression. Octavo, pp.xii; 450; [1], note; [1], imprint. Elegantly hand-bound in half blue calf, spine gilt-lettered in six compartments with raised bands, sewn two-colour endbands, matching blue cloth-covered sides, original cloth covers preserved at the rear. A lovely clean copy in an attractive recent leather binding. A protagonist known only as "K." arrives in a village and struggles to gain access to the mysterious authorities who govern it from a castle supposedly owned by Graf Westwest. It was the first of the author's works to appear in English. Dark and surreal, Kafka's 'Das Schloss' [The Castle] is a landmark in modern European Literature.
