FIRST EDITION. Half title. Uncut in orig. blue boards, grey spine, paper label; spine sl. creased and chipped at head & tail, front hinge starting but sound, extremities a little rubbed. Armorial bookplate of Arthur Henry Davenport & booksellers ticket of J. Andrews, London on leading pastedown; Contemp. ink signature on front board. A nice copy. Lord John Russell, 1792-1878, was a Whig and Liberal politician who served as Prime Minister of Britain twice between 1846-52 and 1865-66. He published a number of political and historical works throughout his life, most of which were written when he was not in office.
